Upload an existing world

Bring a Valheim or Enshrouded world from your computer or another host to your server.

Prepare your world files

If you’re moving from another host, download your world files there first. Extract ZIP files on your computer before uploading them.

The local paths below are for Windows PCs. Paste them directly into File Explorer’s address bar; Windows replaces %USERPROFILE% with your user folder automatically. Close the game or stop the source server before copying its world files.

Valheim

If you have an older .db and .fwl pair, load and save the world in the current version of Valheim first to create a world folder.

If your world is stored in Steam Cloud, use Move to Local in the game’s save manager before closing the game and copying the files. The developers’ save FAQ explains moving saves between local storage and Steam Cloud.

  1. Open %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local in File Explorer.
  2. Open the folder named after the world you want to upload, such as MyWorld.
  3. Copy everything inside that folder to a separate folder on your computer, keeping the file names and folder structure.

Final file location

Upload the contents of your world folder directly into Save on BetaHost. Do not upload the enclosing MyWorld folder or create a worlds_local folder there.

Save/
├── _main.1.fwl2
├── _main.1.db2
├── _main.1.chunks
├── _main.1.ok
├── 00_00__0_1.chunk
└── 00_01__0_1.chunk

Save numbers and chunk files will vary. Keep all the files from your world folder together.

Enshrouded

If your world still uses the older Early Access files, load and save it in the current version of Enshrouded first. The Save data section of the official 1.0 release notes explains the format change and local/cloud selection.

  1. In Enshrouded, check which save slot holds your world and whether it uses local or Steam Cloud saves, then close the game.
  2. Find the folder for your save type:
    • Local saves: paste %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default into File Explorer’s address bar and press Enter.
    • Steam Cloud saves: follow these steps:
      1. Paste C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata into File Explorer’s address bar and press Enter. If Steam is installed elsewhere, right-click your Steam desktop shortcut, choose Properties, then Open File Location to find the folder containing steam.exe. Open userdata there.
      2. In Steam, sign in to the account you use to play this world. Open the Friends menu and choose Add a Friend, then note the number under Your Friend Code. This is your Steam account ID.
      3. Back in userdata, open the folder whose name matches your account ID.
      4. Open 1203620, then remote. With Steam installed in its default location, you should now be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<account ID>\1203620\remote.
  3. Copy the world file for your slot to a separate folder on your computer. The first slot uses world0.ksd, the second uses world1.ksd, and so on.
  4. Rename the copy to world0.ksd if it has a different name. This is the world file your server loads.

Character saves stay on each player’s computer; you do not need to upload them.

Final file location

Upload world0.ksd directly into Save on BetaHost:

Save/
└── world0.ksd

If your world copy includes a backup folder or a migrated folder, keep their names and folder structure when uploading them.

Replace your server’s world

Uploading a world replaces your server’s current world.

  1. Open Files. If the server is running, choose Stop in the server header.
  2. Select Save and wait for the file controls to become available.
  3. Select the existing files and folders in Save, choose Delete, then confirm. This avoids mixing files from the old world with the one you’re uploading.
  4. Drag the prepared files and folders from your computer into Save. For individual files, you can also choose Upload files. Keep the page open until all uploads finish.
  5. Check that the files match your game’s layout above, then choose Start in the server header.

Troubleshooting

Server not starting after the upload?

Stop the server and check that all the required world files are in Save, with the names and folder structure shown above. If the server still will not start, restore a backup from before the upload or reset your world to start fresh.

You can also check Console for messages that might explain the problem or suggest a fix.

Server started a new world instead of the one you uploaded?

Stop the server and check the contents of Save. The world files must sit directly inside it, not inside an extra folder or a ZIP file. For Valheim, include every file from your world folder. For Enshrouded, the world file must be named world0.ksd. Use your original local copy to repeat the upload, or restore your previous world from a backup.
